An invaluable collaboration between services saw four regional education sessions held across Gippsland focussing on end of life issues.
The Gippsland Region Palliative Care Consortium (GRPCC), Gippsland Primary Health Network (Gippsland PHN) and Gippsland Region Palliative Care Consultancy Service (GRPCCS) partnered to provide the sessions in Bairnsdale, Traralgon, Warragul and Wonthaggi that included support around voluntary assisted dying and palliative care.
Gippsland Region Palliative Care Consultancy Service Palliative Care Physician, Dr Melanie Benson, spoke on anticipating and managing the dying phase including recognition, communication and medication management. She also spoke on palliative sedation as an important area of end of life care.
State-wide Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Care Navigators, Melanie Van Diemen or Susan Jury, also attended the sessions. They play a key support role for anyone across Victoria who is seeking information about voluntary assisted dying or assistance going through the process.
