Educational Forums to support Voluntary Assisted Dying
Gippsland PHN, the Gippsland Regional Palliative Care Consortium (GRPCC) and Safer Care Victoria – Palliative Care Clinical Network are partnering to bring you a forum around palliative and end of life care in the region. This is a great opportunity to connect, share and engage with each other, and certainly learn something new!
This half-day workshop follows the success of four regional educational forums delivered in October and November 2018. Held in Bass Coast, West Gippsland, Latrobe and East Gippsland, the forums were facilitated by Dr Melanie Benson, a palliative care physician based with the Gippsland Regional Consultancy Service.
End of life care issues regarding anticipatory prescribing, diagnosing dying and palliative sedation can be a challenging area for GPs and health professionals, particularly with palliative care patients with complex needs.
With the introduction of the Voluntary Assisted Dying laws in July 2019, Gippsland PHN is committed to supporting the GRPCC to improve the knowledge and capability of health professionals in the management of palliative and end of life care.
The forum in June will feature presentations and group activities with a focus on the patient’s journey and the challenges to provide care at the right time, as close to home as possible.
Registrations will be open soon via the Gippsland PHN website.
