Applications for 2021 World Hepatitis Day Grants

World Hepatitis Day is recognised by the World Health Organisation each year on 28 July as a chance to raise awareness of hepatitis and in 2021 the global theme is ‘Hepatitis Can’t Wait’.

LiverWELL is inviting community and not-for-profit organisations to apply for a grant of up to $1000 to provide events and activities which increase awareness and engagement with World Hepatitis Day especially among communities affected by viral hepatitis and liver disease.

LiverWELL is committed to collaborating with communities and workforce to address the urgency needed to take action around liver health and viral hepatitis.

Gippsland PHN is partnering with LiverWELL on HepLOGIC (Hepatitis and liver cancer outcomes in general practice: an intervention collaboration), a Victorian Cancer Agency funded research project.

The project is led by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Viral Hepatitis at the Peter Doherty Institute in Melbourne, in partnership with Hepatitis Victoria, Cancer Council Victoria, the Burnet Institute, the Kirby Institute, University of Notre Dame, South Eastern Melbourne PHN, Eastern Melbourne PHN and Outcome Health. The four-year project aims to:

  1. Identify priority areas for action in supporting the primary care response to viral hepatitis and the prevention of liver cancer.
  2. Increase screening for viral hepatitis and improve clinical management through an intervention to support primary health care clinicians and affected individuals to reduce the risk of viral hepatitis associated liver cancer.
  3. Improve awareness and outcomes for people living with viral hepatitis and at risk of liver cancer.

Further information about the grant can be found here
